055 Shantih of Cowes

St Davids LightBuilt by Hubert Johnson, Bay Head, New Jersey, to a bespoke design by Philip Rhodes, little is known of her history until SHANTIH was acquired in the 80s by the Wooden Boat Company, Camden, Maine in 1993. The proprietors of the Wooden Boat Company brought her back to life and used her as day charter boat in the area of Penobscot Bay, where she achieved some race successes at the Eggemoggen Reach Regatta. At the end of the decade she came to the UK and was moored on the Deben River in Suffolk, where she was a sometime member of the BCYC and regular participant in the Suffolk Classic Yacht Regatta, where she won the Safir trophy for yachts which were well fitted out and in original condition. Shantih now resides in Cowes under the ownership of the Fry family, having undergone a modest refit during 2014. She is still in pristine condition and sails regularly on the South Coast.
