025 Thendara

Thendara was built in St Osyth in 1961 to the design of Alan Buchanan to Lloyds 100A1 to be raced under RORC rules. With her pleasing traditional lines of the era, Thendara is a 33 foot long keel Bermudan rig sloop and is almost entirely original with her mahogany hull, teak cabin and spruce mast. Other than the replacement of her original small engine with a modern 20hp unit, all of her fittings are as they were in 1961. In 1999 she had a new suit of sails, 4 headsails and a spinnaker, cut to the original plans but with modern cloth.

For the past six years, in her current ownership, Thendara has had continuous selective renovation over the winters in preparation for the spring sailing. She enters the inshore races in the Solent area, with favourites such as Round the Island Race; and spends two weeks or so in Brittany for a summer cruise.

ThendaraAt the inspirational Americ's Cup Jubilee in Cowes Thendara spent all ten days chasing her big sisters around the Solent, and the introduction of Thendara to the Mylne ketch, her namesake "Thendara" (BCYC: 009) raised cheers from both boats!

The interest in the high quality of yacht restoration and the celebration of the beauty of these wooden boats fuel Thendara's owners' pleasure and encourages their joy in her maintenance and sailing.
